Fabulous couple of hours in there on a miserable bank hol weekend. The lady on the desk was very friendly. Exhibition was very well laid out and informative, I expected it to just be about the Jefferson family, but theres so much more-local history, slave trade, and prohibition, and the importance of rum to all this. Will definately need to return as I dont think I was able to take in all the information.

Lovely tour and we learned a lot about the history of rum and its relationship with Whitehaven. It was made even better by the brilliant Tour Guide who gave us a fantastic tour and was brilliantly helpful and friendly. Definitely a fun addition to the day.

This is a top little museum. It gains from the fact that it is located in the very premises from which this part of the rum trade was managed, and so has a lot of the original artefacts and documents. Then they have built on this to produce an impressive audio-visual experience on each floor : the material on the slave trade and on current rum production was especially memorable. A must do if you are in Whitehaven, and a great visit from nearby northern Lakes if the weather is bad there.

This place is such a little gem. It's obviously had someone with a good eye in charge of the design and layout. It's packed with interesting information, original relics, dioramas (our family loves dioramas) and even a little taster of rum at the end. Even the kids found it interesting as it has a lot of visual displays, videos and also looks at the pirates life which, of course, all kids love. If you are in or near Whitehaven I recommend a visit here and then a walk along the cliffs where you will get stunning sea views and stumble across the old colliery and the first ever undersea pit.

Four of us went along to the Rum Story only expecting to fill an hour of our time. How wrong we were !! What a fabulous time we had so much to see, read & learn about rum. There was so many displays that were very informative for all. At the end we got to sample a tot of rum. The lady at the ticket office was so friendly and welcoming and had lots to tell us both at the start and end of our visit. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit which took us so much longer than 1 hour. If you need something to keep you entertained in Whitehaven go to the Rum Story you won't be disappointed.

A very good exhibit about Rum including the role and impact of slavery, Prohibition and the history of the Jeffersons. The rum clock was pretty good to see and the little taster of the rum, was a bonus.

With family, children, adults, a partner or solo go! As I said, alone, with adults or children. Go. It is absalutely amazing. You learn, see and experience some amazing things. Take plenty of pictures, gave a great time. Have a shot of rum at the end (if you aren't driving!) Or treat someone to a small gift. You can hire it out for any occasion also! Check out the beacon on the habour side too!

Excellent place to visit. We hid from the rain while learning loads about the rum and sugar trade. Even the kids found it interesting, so it's definitely a winner.

I love walking around the Rum Story with my little girl, discovering the history of Rum is amazing for us both. The Rum Story Cafe is one of the best in whitehaven, beautiful food, value for money, the most friendly and welcoming staff who go out of their way to help you . The rum story shop is where I will always by my food products - Rum Butter. I highly recommend a visit to the three above when your visiting.

Went with my son and girlfriend from London, and her parents from Brussels. Funny I have lived in Whitehaven for a year, and never been farther than having a coffee here. Where to start, three floors of fantastic info, models, to take you through the story of rum. We spent a good hour and a half, my guests could have stayed longer. Great price and a lovely tot of rum at the end. Some of the exhibits are a little frightening, and it can be dark. Children would probably not be to worried, I was. Really has to be seen to be believed how good this place is.
