Image of the deserted vaults (or are they really deserted?) As in the Clerks' Office, very little has changed here in the vaults over many years, including the wonderful smell!

In times past the vaults stored the barrels, boxes and sacks unloaded at the harbour and delivered to the Warehouse doors on Chapel Street. These were bonded vaults and were used to store the barrels and bottles of rum for which duty had not yet been paid.

An old hand corking machine found in the vaults of the Rum Story All the machinery here is original, including an old hand corking machine and lead sealer which placed a neat seal around the tops of the bottles, much like the plastic seals of today.

As you explore the now deserted vaults keep your eyes and ears open. There are stories of ghostly workers who may appear if you venture too far!

The room next door is our Haunted Vault hospitality suite. Although not open to the general public you may be lucky enough to attend a private function or party here. If you do not have time for talk of food and drink climb the stairs here to the first floor where further fascinating encounters await.
